The Town of Hanover Receives $332,588 Grant to Upgrade and Expand Hanover Park
Residents of every town everywhere deserve a quality community park in which to gather, connect with others, and play. As the result of a generous grant award in the amount of $332,588 from Bethany Legacy Foundation, The Town of Hanover now has enough funding to upgrade and expand Hanover Park on Spruce Ln. This grant fills a funding gap created when costs increased significantly between the time the town applied for and received a grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, which was matched by the Town of Hanover.
President of Hanover Council Debbie Kroger says this grant “will tremendously enhance the Town of Hanover Parks Department. The Foundation’s generosity will have a measurable impact on the lives of many residents of all ages.” Council member Kenny Garrett expressed his thanks, saying, “We were in a hard place. God bless Bethany Legacy Foundation for making a difference in the lives of the kids of Hanover and the entire community.”
With some additional funding from Southwestern School District, the tennis courts have been completely redone. Soon the buildings behind the ball diamond will be upgraded and will include restrooms. The path in the park will be extended around the whole park with new lighting, making it more walkable and handicap-accessible. A storage building will be added as well.
Dora Anim, CEO of Bethany Legacy Foundation, believes this mission aligns with the core mission of the Foundation, which is to make Jefferson County, Indiana the healthiest county in the world. She says, “Parks enrich a community and build connections among residents. This investment in the city of Hanover will improve the lives of residents today and for generations to come.”
The mission of the Hanover Parks Department is to provide diverse year-round leisure opportunities through the preservation of open space, park settings, recreational facilities, and programs to promote well-being for the citizens of Hanover and all of Jefferson County, Indiana.
