Our History

Bethany Legacy Foundation traces its roots to 1896, when twelve young women from a local church stepped forward to meet a need no one else could. After seeing a young boy unable to receive safe surgery in his home, they imagined something bold for their community: a hospital built on faith, compassion, and collective action.

Their vision sparked a movement. More than 100 women joined them, raising funds, gathering supplies, and transforming a donated home into the first King’s Daughters’ Hospital in 1899. Families were cared for regardless of their ability to pay, and community generosity helped the hospital grow through the decades with new wings, expanded services, and more physicians serving the region.

In 2013, the hospital moved to a modern 86-bed facility. In 2021, a partnership between King’s Daughters’ Hospital and Norton Healthcare created new resources to continue the founders’ mission, which established what is now Bethany Legacy Foundation.

Today, we carry forward more than a century of service, honoring their courage by investing in lasting solutions and helping build a healthier Jefferson County, IN. for generations to come.
