Jefferson County Secures Funding to Boost Mental Health Services and Address Critical Care Gaps
Bethany Legacy Foundation is proud to announce two significant investments aimed at addressing the mental health crisis and reducing substance use disorder in Jefferson County. A $750,000 multi-year grant will support the Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JCAP), a collaborative initiative led by the Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC) and designed to reduce jail recidivism through therapy, life skills training, peer support, and post-release transition services. Additionally, a $192,000 multi-year grant will fund a new Jefferson County Behavioral Health Navigator, a vital resource connecting organizations and individuals in need of substance use disorder and mental health services.
“The Jail Chemical Addiction Program and the Behavioral Health Navigator are both innovative projects that address the growing mental health needs in our county,” said Ronnie Watson, Program Manager at Bethany Legacy Foundation. “Through these grants, we are helping to build a network of care that empowers individuals to break the cycle of addiction and recidivism, while ensuring they have access to the support they need to rebuild their lives.”
The JCAP initiative, a cross-sector collaborative effort between city and county government under the leadership of Mayor Bob Courtney, is a groundbreaking program that offers a comprehensive approach to tackling substance use disorders among individuals incarcerated in Jefferson County. Through individual and group therapy, life skills training, peer support, and post-release transition assistance, the program seeks to reduce the rate of recidivism and equip participants with the tools to thrive after their release.
The Behavioral Health Navigator will serve as a crucial link for those seeking mental health and substance use disorder resources in the county. By determining available resources and connecting local agencies to strengthen communication, this role will ensure that Jefferson County residents in need receive the comprehensive care they deserve.
“These projects represent a collaborative effort that will not only reduce rates of recidivism but also improve access to care for individuals battling mental health and substance use challenges,” Watson added. “We are excited to see the positive impact these initiatives will have in our community.”
These two projects, in partnership with local stakeholders, represent a powerful step forward in creating a stronger, more supportive community in Jefferson County.
